SPENCES Menswear in Castle Street, one of Ballymena’s longest established retail stores, is planning to finally close down at the end of this year, after 87 years in business.
Founded in 1935 by William Spence originally as a travelling salesman, this 3rd generation family business moved to Castle Street in 1958 under the control of William’s son Walter, who then opened the shop in it’s current location.
Current owner Stephen Spence is planning to semi-retire after 42 years involvement in menswear retail and especially wants to thank his loyal customer base for their business and support over the past months, years and in many cases, decades.

Successful award winning online business
Spences launched their successful, award winning, online business ‘utilitybear.com’ back in 2017 and this has now been expanded and will continue to trade from new, larger, dedicated premises under progressive new management, as Stephen steps back from his role in the business.
Due to the store closure plans, Spences have been running a Retirement Closing Down Sale over the past month, which continues, with at least 25% OFF all stock and now with many items at HALF PRICE with some up to 75% OFF
