STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — An Amazon worker died at a New Jersey fulfillment center on July 13 during the company’s annual Prime Day event, as first reported by Huffpost’s Dave Jamieson.
The worker’s identity was not released, but Amazon spokesperson Sam Stephenson said the company contacted the family to offer support while offering counseling to employees.
“We’re deeply saddened by the passing of one of our colleagues and offer our condolences to his family and friends during this difficult time,” Stephenson said of the death at the company’s EWR9 facility just across the Arthur Kill in Carteret.
A spokesperson for the Occupational Health and Safety Administration told NJ.com, the Advance/SILive.com’s sister publication, that they’re investigating the death, but that the investigation could take up to six months.
Prime Day is an annual event that marks one of the company’s busiest days of the year, and offers exclusive deals for the company’s Prime members.
